These Cheesy Sloppy Joes are a family favorite, made with seasoned ground beef in a sweet and tangy sauce, topped with melty cheddar cheese and served on toasted buns. Perfect for a quick and comforting weeknight meal.
1cupshredded cheddar cheeseor 4 slices of cheddar cheese
Instructions
Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess grease.
Step 2: Reduce heat to low and stir in ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth (if using). Mix well and simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 3: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture (or place cheese slices on top). Cover the skillet and let the cheese melt, about 2–3 minutes.
Step 4: Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun and top with the other half.
Step 5: Serve warm with your favorite sides, like fries, coleslaw, or a simple salad.
Notes
Try using brioche or pretzel buns for extra flavor. Add pickled jalapeños or sliced pickles for a tangy twist. Leftovers reheat well and make great next-day sandwiches.
