Equipment

  • Wok or Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Saucepan
  • Tongs or Spatula

Ingredients

For the Beef

  • 1 lb flank steak thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

For the Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup beef broth

For the Stir-Fry

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles or use spaghetti
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil divided
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup carrots julienned
  • 1/2 red bell pepper sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger

Instructions

  • Step 1: In a bowl, combine sliced flank steak with soy sauce and cornstarch. Set aside to marinate for 10 minutes.
  • Step 2: In a small bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients: soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and beef broth. Set aside.
  • Step 3: Cook lo mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Step 4: Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Sear the beef for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Step 5: Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Sauté onions, broccoli, carrots, and bell pepper for 3–4 minutes until tender-crisp. Add garlic and ginger, and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
  • Step 6: Return the beef to the skillet. Add the cooked noodles and pour in the sauce. Toss well over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until heated through and evenly coated.
  • Step 7: Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.

Notes

You can swap the beef with chicken or tofu for variety. For extra heat, add chili garlic sauce or crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce mix.
