  • 3 lb beef brisket trimmed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth low sodium preferred
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce plus more for serving

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: In a small bowl, mix together smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and pepper to create a spice rub.
  • Step 2: Rub the spice mixture all over the brisket. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the brisket on all sides until browned (optional for more flavor).
  • Step 3: Place the seared brisket in the slow cooker. Add beef broth and BBQ sauce around the meat.
  • Step 4: Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
  • Step 5: Remove the brisket and let rest for 10 minutes. Slice against the grain and drizzle with extra BBQ sauce before serving.

Notes

For extra depth, marinate the brisket in the spice rub overnight. This recipe also works great for sandwiches or tacos the next day.
